was a ‘Surgeon Dentist’ and practiced for many years in Cheltenham. According
to business directories in Cheltenham Library he lived at various premises in
the town. 1840, 14 Clarence Street: 1841, 5 Regent Street: 1847, 2 Portland
Street: 1850, 33 Cambray Place: 1858, 4 Cambray Place.
the time of the 1861 Census he was still at 4 Cambray Place. In 1871 and 1881
he was at 3 Pittville Terrace. In 1881 he had moved to Exmouth Cottage, Hewlett
Regent Street is now a delicatessen specialising in cheeses, 2 Portland Street
is the Masonic Lodge, 33 Cambray Place is a ladies clothes shop and 4 Cambray
Place is now a pub/restaurant called Taylor’s. While at 3 Pittville Terrace a
young boy was born next door at No 4. His name - Gustav Holst, who grew up to
be the acclaimed composer.
listed on the Censuses from 1851 to 1891 was Anna’s niece Anna DEW, daughter of
Alice AMBURY and Thomas DEW.
